Partner Organizations
SCI-Eastern North is a partnership between two leaders in the local community development scene: Philadelphia LISC and the Asociación de Puertorriqueños en Marcha, Inc. (APM). Our partnership dates back to the early 1990's and has since included investment in nine real estate projects and other community development efforts including recent investments in greening the neighborhood. Together, LISC and APM have helped stimulate economic development in the neighborhood by investing in the Tru Mark Credit Union as well as Cousin's Super Market. LISC's investments in the APM community have included numerous grants, loans, and equity investments into affordable housing projects including both rental and homeownership.
In 2009 LISC sought to create a second Philadelphia Sustainable Communities site and received applications from CDCs across Philadelphia. APM, while strong in real estate development, also has a long history of providing social services to the community. Since its inception, APM has worked to implement and maintain initiatives in the key areas of primary health; behavioral health; substance abuse treatment for youth and adults; emergency and transitional shelter; support services for the family and individuals; head start and daycare services; and child welfare.
The SC initiative is designed to bring both aspects of their work together and integrate them more holistically in the community providing a long lasting and sustainable comprehensive community development strategy. With their comprehensive approach to community development as well as their willingness to engage community partners, APM was chosen as Philadelphia's newest Sustainable Communities site.
